From a book I recently read about a woman born shortly after the War Between the States. She's the great aunt of the man who once pastored our church, and this is some of the best advice I've seen.
On raising your child:
Be patient. Be firm. But do not slap or scold. She is not the kind that needs it.
If you want her to be refined, cultured and a great Christian, be all these things yourself.
Wherever I failed, improve on it yourself.
Improve, improve, improve.1
