Shining Rock

The Shining Rock Wilderness is a rugged mountainous region in Western North Carolina. Its name is derived from the quartize and mica embedded in outcroppings. Sun reflects off rocks. Mud shimmers. Within the Wilderness you'll find—for western NC—tall peaks, including the now famous Cold Mountain.

Shining Rock is also the setting of a short story I wrote, recently published on Christian Fiction Online Magazine. As I mentioned in a previous post, it's an excerpt of sorts from a novel I've yet to write. My first real short story, one that turned into a fantastic writing exercise. I learned much about word economy and manipulating details. Here's the link:
